SSS or Social Security System is a state-run, social insurance program in the Philippines for workers in the private, professional, and informal sectors. On July 7, 1948, during the term of then President Elpidio Quirino that the Social Security Commission was created which gave way to the enactment of Republic Act 1161, better known as Social Security Act of 1954. But because of opposition by people from both the business and labor sectors, its implementation was delayed and its only in 1957 when amendments to the bill was presented in congress thru RA 1792 when the Social Security Act was finally implemented on September 1 of the same year. On May 1, 1997 under the presidency of Fidel V.
